Sniper Ghillie Suits

The Art of Sniping

Sniper Ghillie Suits

Sniper ghillie suits are different from many of the ghillie suits you see in stores.  Most large department stores and online stores sell ghillie suits catered to the hunter, paintballer and airsoft player.  Snipers spend alot of time crawling and slowly moving through very tough terrain.  They also tend to remain still for long periods of time.

Sniper ghillie suits therefore have reinforcement in areas that see the most wear, such as the knees and elbows.  Many times sniper ghillie suits also do not have any material on the front of the body.  Because so much time is spent being prone, camouflage may not be needed in the front as its always against the ground.  Also, because much time is spent crawling any jute or burlap material in front would hinder his movement and become a nuisance.

Sniper ghillie suits should also have cord locks and thumb loops.  The thumb loops help to keep the sleeve from shortening as the sniper crawls.  Cord locks keep leaves and debris from entering into the ghillie suit.
